We didn't have school today but decided to clean house.  I like to get the house cleaned  up just in case anyone comes to visit. So we will resume school next week on Tuesday of course because Monday is Memorial Day!!

Back to school!

We are back to school today! We have taken a break the past few weeks because we were out of town and busy with other things. I enjoy our flexible schedule. We have kind of worked ourselves into homeschooling year round and taking breaks when we need to as opposed to hard set breaks for summer, etc.  We do take several weeks off for Thanksgiving and Christmas but in reality the kids are learning every single day even if we aren't technically "schooling".

I like to start each school day with Prayer, The Pledge of Allegiance, Character Studies (Polite Moments booklet), Calendar time (in which we discuss what day it is, upcoming events/holidays, the weather, etc.). Then we move on to either individual studies or working on something as a group like studying a certain holiday or a craft or science experiment.

Mikayla is going to work on her Bible Study Guide for All Ages, for Math she will be working on "telling time" worksheets, most of our time will be spent working on her Memorial Day lapbook because Memorial Day is fast approaching!

Tony is using More Starfall on the laptop.  He is working on the daily calendar and math sections.  He will also work on some alphabet skills.

In reality we only made it through calendar time and the Memorial Day lapbook for Mikayla although Tony did all that he was scheduled to do...

 We will do better tomorrow.

Yesterday we didn't do school but we did make it out to Horse and Reader where Mikayla picked up a trophy (she scored the highest points of the day in her age category) that she won that we didn't know about because we left the Horse Show early and the trophy wasn't given out until 7:00 p.m.  Anthony also received a first place ribbon for Trail 6 and under!!

Today we are heading out to "Horse and Reader" which is a program we found a few years ago that teaches kids how to lead/manage/ride horses as well as reading and journaling, science and arts and crafts.

Trying to chronicle our homeschool days through this blog...I hope it won't take a long time, but I want to remember what our days are like, life goes so fast and this will be a way to remember.
